Testing of our Early Warning Sirens will begin on Wednesday, March 19th at 10:00 am. These tests will continue weekly through the end of September.
The sirens are tested weekly in order for us to make sure that they are in proper working condition. The City has 8 Early Warning Sirens strategically located around town in order to cover the entire community. A map of the siren locations can be found on the city website under the map section.
The sirens are only set off when we have a confirmed Tornado Warning that affects the City of Sidney. Confirmation is controlled through the National Weather Service, the Cheyenne County Communications Center, and trained weather spotters from Law Enforcement, Fire, and Emergency Management.
The Early Warning Sirens are an outdoor warning device and are not intended to warn residents within their homes. Residents are encouraged to purchase NOAA Weather Radios for their homes in order to receive the most up to date weather information and alerts.
