[ARCHIVED] CCECC Conducting Emergency Warning Sirens

At 10 a.m. on Wednesdays starting March 28 through September, the sirens in Sidney, Potter, Dalton, Gurley and Lodgepole will be activated for weekly tests, with the exception of days when weather appears threatening.

The tests will last approximately 30 seconds allowing officials to confirm they are operational, actual warnings will have duration of about 2 minutes. The warning sirens will be activated when funnel clouds or tornados have been reported nearing communities or the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, Wyoming issues a tornado warning for areas of Cheyenne County.

The sirens are also used to notify the public of other emergency situations that may be effecting the area; people hearing the sirens should move inside and listen to their local radio stations or the NOAA Weather radio at 162.500 MHz for special information and instructions.

Now is the time for citizens, businesses and schools to review and practice their emergency plans or it they don't have one, make one
