You can do your own plumbing and electrical work if you own the home and live in the house. For homes you own but do not live in, you will need to hire a licensed plumber or electrician.

A permit fee is based off of the value of the entire job including all subcontractors and electrical work. See the rate structure under "building and permit fees". Call our office at (308) 254-5300 for more information.

A building permit is required by code for everything except for painting and carpeting. Permits are not required on window or door replacement if they are the same size. Permits are not required for accessory buildings of 180 square feet or less. However, you must meet all setback requirements for the building eave to the eave of the main structure.

You will need a permit if the storage building is going to be larger than 180 square feet.

The City of Sidney and its 2 mile jurisdiction has adopted the IBC-2012, IRC-2012, IPC-2012 and the IMC-2012. Buildings must meet these codes as well as a Class C Exposer, Maximum wind gust of 90 MPH, and 20 pound groud snow weight.
