Joe Arterburn

City Council
Title: Vice-Mayor

A native of western Nebraska, Joe Arterburn and his family moved to Sidney in 1993. After graduating from Chase County High School in Imperial, Joe attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. After 10 years as a reporter for daily newspapers in Alliance, Neb., and Council Bluffs, Iowa, he moved to Sidney to take a position at Cabela’s, where he worked for nearly 23 years, most recently as Corporate Communications Manager. He is currently a freelance writer, his work appearing in Outdoor Life, Petersen's Hunting and other outdoor publications.

He served 10 years on the then-named Memorial Health Center Foundation board of directors; is on the Nebraska Sportsmen’s Foundation Advisory Board; coached Cheyenne County Community Center sports teams; and has been active on community projects and organizations such as the Sidney park pond, Sidney Raiders Booster Club and others.

He and his wife, Cathy, who is employed at Sidney Regional Medical Center, have raised three sons, Hunter, Jack and Sam, in Sidney.

Joe has served on the City Council since December of 2012, served as Mayor for two years, and is currently serving as vice-mayor.
