CITY DEPARTMENTS

The City Office houses the City Manager, Public Services, City Clerk, Deputy Clerk, Human Resources, Inspections, Accounts Payable Clerk, Utility Clerk, Cashier/Receptionist and Handi Bus.   The office handles utility deposits for customers, connection and disconnection services,  utility payments, permits for handicap, business occupation licenses, cemetery lot purchases, payroll. accounts payable, human resources, inspections and codes, public services.

During 2009, an average of 74 hours and 32 minutes were volunteered to perform rescue calls and fighting of city and rural fires.  The Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded to a total of 50 city fires, 38 rural fires and 17 rescue calls and 8 Jaw’s of Life call.  This does not include hours of continuous training, meetings, clean up and preparing equipment in the on-going quest to insure city and rural safety.  Remember to give your support to our Volunteer Fire Department!  The 130th Annual Fireman’s Ball was held on Friday, April 16, 2010.

LANDFILL SATURDAY HOURS:  Landfill charges will apply unless you have your free dump card.  Free dump cards are good for residential customers only.  Construction and demolition waste, tires and Freon containing appliances cannot be dumped with a dump card but will be accepted at the regular disposal rates.  For further information, call the Solid Waste Department at 308-254-6071 or John Hehnke, Public Services Director at 308-254-5300.

All Saturdays from March 27 through October 9, with the exception of April 3 and October 2.  Saturday hours will be from 8am until noon.

The early spring dates are subject to cancellation during inclement weather.

The Sidney Public Library is a full service library.  The library carries over 46,000 volumes of books for adults and children.  You can find large print books, audio tapes, magazines and periodicals.  The library also makes available  pre-school story hours,  reading programs and a bookmobile.

The city park is closed from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00  a.m.  All dogs must be on a leash.  No alcohol permitted.

The City Bus runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The fee is 50 cents per one way trip in town.  There is a fee of $1.00 per one way trip for transportation to any business located out on the interstate.   Plan to schedule one hour in advance or one day ahead for best service. The City Bus does not run on city or county holidays.
