The City Council consists of five members elected by the people for four year terms.  City Council is the governing body of the City and exercises all powers which have been or may be conferred upon the City by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nebraska, except those provided for in State Statutes.  The Council meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 7:15 p.m. at the City Hall, located at 1115 13th Avenue.

Wendall Gaston—Mayor

Dr. Wendall Gaston is a pharmacist.  He and his wife, Deanna,  have owned their own pharmacies for over 20 years.  Wendall is currently the pharmacy manager at the Safeway Store in Sidney.  Wendall graduated with a BS in pharmacy from the University of WY, received his MBA from the University of NE and  his Pharm D from the University of Kansas.  He has received over 200 civic and professional awards.  Wendall also gives keynote motivational speeches and seminars on various topics all over the county.  Wendall is married to Deanna, who is a R.N. with Cabela’s.  They have three daughters, Cora, Jennie and Tamlyn. 

Wendall has been on the City Council since May of 2002.

Dalan Hiett-Vice Mayor

Dalan has been a resident of Sidney for nearly 15 years and is originally from Kimball.  He is currently employed by Cabela’s Corporate as an Inventory Control Analyst in the Marine Department.   He has been involved with the Sidney Oktoberfest, Gold Rush Day and sits on the board of directors for the Night of Hope Foundation.  He is also a graduate of the Sidney Area Leadership Tomorrow (SALT) program.  He is an avid Broncos and Avalanche fan.  Dalan enjoys being a part of the community and is always looking for ways to be more actively involved.

Dalan has been on the City Council since December of 2006.

Larry Hiers is the Director of Human Resources at Cabela’s.  Larry graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1975 with a BS in journalism.  Larry has 28 years of business experience with 14 of those years being in management.  Larry worked for Milliken for 8 years and then with Becton Dickinson for 14 years.  He started with Cabela’s in 1996 as the Director of Human Resources and remains in that position.  Larry resides on the following boards:  City of Sidney City Council, Chairman for the NE Greater Workforce Development for 88 counties, Governors Board for Workforce Development and Chadron State College Advisory Board for Business and Economic Development.  Larry previously served as City Councilman from July of 2002 to December of 2006.   Larry is married to Connie, who is a Sr. Inventory Control Analyst at Cabela’s.  They have three daughters, Ashley, Lindsey and Lauren.

Dave Weiderspon

Natives of Colorado, Dave and his wife Kathie, moved to Sidney in 1991. They purchased White Bluffs Veterinarian Hospital and built their new facility at 11th Avenue several years ago.  Dave graduated from Colorado State University in 1985 with an Animal Science Degree and in 1989 with a Dr. of Veterinarian Medicine.  The Weiederspon’s have been very involved in the Sidney Raider Booster Club and its many volunteer projects.  Dave is an avid Raider fan following with great support the many activities of  sons, Matt, Zach and Austin.  Dave’s involvement with the Cheyenne County Fair Board over the past decade has had a significant impact on the county fair and in many building improvements at the fairgrounds. 

Dave has been on the City Council since December of 2000.
